Zhiyu Pu | Want Convenience or Better Health?

Zhiyu Pu | First of all, I am not a tree hugger. I like a juicy steak as much as the next person; however, on my day to day routine I do try to eat a healthy diet.

I drink no soda. I use no salt. I eat gluten free breads and baked goods. I avoid sugar as much as possible. At 74 years of age, my weight is normal for my height, my annual blood tests are always normal, and my blood pressure is, at last check up, was 122 over 70. Oh, my cholesterol is below 200.

Why do I bother when the grocery stores are full of foods that seem loaded with additives, preservatives, and chemicals most can't pronounce?

Well... mainly, eating right and getting the right nutrition and avoiding additives give me peace of mind. I also have more energy, I sleep like a baby each night and by not getting sick as often as most people my age, I avoid costly medical expenses.

It just makes sense to me.

Here's a century's old saying: "When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; When diet is correct, medicine is of no need." ~Ayurvedic Proverb

Does that make sense to you?

At first, eating healthier is not easy. You've got to wade through each item to see what it's made of but eventually you will learn what to buy and what is better for you.

I have eaten this way for so long now that my shopping time is no longer than anyone else's.

Need more convincing?

Well... common items sold daily in stores can do serious harm to your body. Here are just a few ingredients:

MSG - linked to headaches and high blood pressure.

Artificial food coloring - is suspected of causing increased hyperactivity in children. Also, the dye Yellow No. 5 has been thought to worsen asthma symptoms. Red dye No. 5 was banned because of its link to cancer.

High-fructose corn syrup - thought to raise the risk of Obesity and possibly Type 2 Diabetes.

Zhiyu Pu | So, my advice to everyone. Watch what you are eating. Read the labels. Do some research (Google). This applies to medicines also. Take care of yourself. Your family and friends will most likely appreciate having you around as long as possible.
